Stacy Moutafis – Show Notes

What is your background?

At the age of 18, Stacy was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer and she went through many years of reconstructive surgery and physical therapy after almost losing her leg.

She says that her love for fitness grew from there.

“It wasn’t until I went through extensive rehab that I realized how important building muscular strength and flexibility was.”

Stacy aspired to become a trainer, specifically a fitness therapy trainer for disabilities, sport rehabilitation, and children with joint replacements.

She then went on to get her personal training certification. About a year into her career as a personal trainer,

Stacy was introduced to competing. Even though she felt like she had restrictions due to her injury, she hired a coach and started training.

She started out competing in the bikini and figure competitions and then decided fitness competitions are what she would be doing next, even though she was told it wasn’t possible for her to physically do it.

“I had a 1- year fitness competition career; I just stopped two years ago.”

What are some of the highlights of the industry that you love?

Stacy says there are a lot of opportunities to be seen, whether it be in magazines, modeling, supplement representation and also being able to get her story out there.

“That was a huge thing for me, being able to put my story out there. I was able to share what had happened to me in my journey.”

What is the most challenging aspect of this industry?

Stacy felt that time was always an issue. You are training for four hours a day, and your training has to come before a lot of other things in your life.

“I always warned everyone about the realities of time and what you really need to put into it if you are looking to achieve a national status or pro status.”

She adds that a social life is another thing you miss out on when training this hard.

What are some of the biggest mistakes you see when your clients are trying to achieve their goals?

Stacy has been coaching for five years and she finds that some people come in for coaching and are not taking the initial steps of becoming a competitor seriously.

As a coach how do you help address that?

Stacy makes sure she has many conversations with new competitors about the time and effort they need to put in.

Personally, she tries to make herself readily available to give support to her clients as much as she can.

How has your book impacted your business?

Stacy shares that she has been able to be a part of radio shows and interviews, as well as the opportunity to work with Bridal Wars and gain new clients.

She was also able to advertise her brand on a different level. With her partner and co-author being a TV personality, she was able to get exposure to other TV hosts and radio hosts.

How do you stay current with that’s going on in the industry?

“I don’t.”

Stacy says she does not read fitness magazines and she doesn’t watch fitness TV.

She has her own principals and sticks to them because she feels that a lot of those things can be propaganda and marketing.

“I stay very true to what has worked for my clients for the last two decades.”

Who is your ideal client?

“I like to work with everyone.”

This shows in the wide range of clients Stacy currently has.

What three books would you recommend?

“Pulling Your Own Strings” by Wayne Dyer

“I Can See Clearly Now” by Wayne Dyer

May Cause Miracles” by Gabrielle Bernstein
